Jimmy Robert: Éclipser

September 4, 2025
Overview
20:00

Jimmy Robert will present a new performance: Éclipser in his first eponymous solo exhibition in Korea at Barakat Contemporary. At once a video and performance, Éclipser expands Robert's ongoing reflections on art historical affinities in connection with Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, whose engagement with language, surfaces and body intersects with Robert's.

Simultaneously tracing Cha's archives at BAMPFA, Berkeley, and invoking her in the present, Robert juxtaposes her materials with sound, words, and movement to underline the similarities and also the differences in their work. As an ethereal, evanescent call for an impossible rendez-vous, Robert extends a dialogue between artistic legacy and present day body, exploring ways in which the materials can be perceived and opened for new meanings.
