Wael Shawky: Al Araba Al Madfuna
Barakat Contemporary presents Al Araba Al Madfuna, an exhibition by Egyptian artist Wael Shawky, from 29th November 2019 to 31st January 2020.
Considered one of the most important artists in the Middle East, Wael Shawky attempts to reinterpret established historical narratives through film and a range of other media using storytelling that mixes truth with fiction. Holding history to be not a record of facts but the translation and interpretation of its writer, he draws upon in-depth investigations and research to create elaborate works that pose questions about the given historicity. In addition to a film based on the mythology of an Egyptian region “Al Araba Al Madfuna,” this exhibition will also be presenting works of drawings and paintings by Shawky for the first time anywhere.
