Lawrence Abu Hamdan in Canicula

A group exhibition by Foundazione In Between Art Film

Barakat Contemporary is excited to share the participation of Lawrence Abu Hamdan, one of eight newly commissioned works, which will be presented in Canicula, a group exhibition by Foundazione In Between Art Film. The exhibition is curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Leonardo Bigazzi, marking the final chapter of the foundation’s “Trilogy of Uncertainties,” following Penumbra(2022) and Nebula(2024).

Coinciding with the 61st Venice Biennale, Canicula, taking its name from the Latin term for the “dog days” of summer, it explores blinding brightness and oppressive heat as both material and metaphor. Within this framework, Abu Hamdan’s work contributes to a broader reflection on image saturation, information distortion, and the political implications of sensory excess. Known for his investigations into sound, listening, and the politics of perception, Abu Hamdan’s contribution resonates strongly with Canicula’s focus on extreme conditions of light, heat, and sensory overload.
