The Intensity of Softness. Jimmy Robert & Franz Erhard Walther, curated by François Piron, opens 29 March at Villa FEW, Fulda, Germany.
The exhibition takes its title from a shared materiality — the choice by both artists to work with soft, permeable, metamorphic materials such as fabric and paper: materials that hug the contours of the body yet allow movement, solid in appearance yet woven, and tied to the textual. The Intensity of Softness traces a trajectory between both practices, pointing to a common strategy that requires determination and openness — an embrace of uncertainty and the unknown.
The exhibition presents an exchange between the two artists: Franz Erhard Walther has conceived a coat element for Jimmy Robert, prompting a new performance to be staged publicly on the opening day, with a film of the piece screened throughout the exhibition.
Also on view is Éclipse, the video work by Jimmy Robert that had its world premiere at Barakat Contemporary, Seoul, last year.
