《El Anatsui: After the Red Moon》 begins its global tour at the Museum of Art Pudong

On 30 September 2024, the exhibition 《El Anatsui: After the Red Moon》 begins its global tour at the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) in Shanghai, in collaboration with Tate. Renowned Ghanaian artist El Anatsui, awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2015 Venice Biennale, presents a monumental installation originally commissioned by Tate Modern. Made from thousands of metal bottle tops, the installation reflects on the histories of the transatlantic slave trade and contemporary global industries rooted in colonial trade routes. Visitors are invited to engage with the artwork, revealing abstract landscapes and symbols such as the moon and waves. The exhibition is organised into three acts: The waves, which responds to MAP’s waterfront setting, The World, depicting human figures converging into a globe, and The Wall, symbolising both crashing waves and hope. Accompanied by a soundscape from Ghanaian-British artist Peter Adjaye, 《After the Red Moon》 explores human histories of power and survival through sculpture.
