The Carnegie International, 2018 opens with El Anatsui’s new work “Three Angles” (2018) which adorns the facade of the Carnegie Museum of Art. The Ghanaian-born El Anatsui has draped one of his glorious tapestries – a rippling quilt of bottle caps, metal printing plates, and mirrors – across the long stone facade of the museum’s building, creating novel visual effects.
Curated by Ingrid Schaffner, this year’s Carnegie International is audience orientated with a goal of “Museum Joy” which, according to the curator, connotes the delight of looking at art with others.
