James Barnor’s first retrospective in France with LUMA is presented as part of the ‘Rencontres d’Arles’, a summer photography festival, and features a selection of previously unseen images, selected in collaboration with the artist.
At 93, James Barnor continues to inspire generations of artists and enthrall his audience. Behind each of his photographs lies a story rooted in a 40-year geographical and historical journey from Ghana to the United Kingdom. From the end of the colonial era to the early 1990s, from studio portraits to press commissions, the exhibition offers a kaleidoscopic look at the work of James Barnor.
