Barakat Contemporary is pleased to be selected to participate in Art Basel Qatar 2026, the inaugural edition of Art Basel in Qatar, curated by artistic director Wael Shawky. The gallery will take part with a booth presentation featuring new works from Yunchul Kim’s Strata series, contributing to the opening chapter of the fair.
As part of Art Basel Qatar’s city-wide programme, the collaborative performance my tongue is a blade, by Okwui Okpokwasili and Peter Born (Sweat Variant), will be presented. The work brings together four performers who unfold within a shifting visual and sonic environment, exploring the limits of attention and relational memory as the performers hold and sustain one another.
Marking Art Basel’s first-ever edition in Qatar, the fair launches as a major new platform in the region, accompanied by large-scale programmes unfolding across Msheireb Downtown Doha. Comprising nine large-scale newly commissioned works— the largest group ever presented at a single Art Basel fair— featuring sculptures, installations, and performances activating key public and cultural sites across the city.
